The waterlogged conditions has ensured that the planks are very well preserved and this will allow archaeologists a rare opportunity for study. Although much more modest, the boat was constructed using the same techniques as the great Sutton Hoo ships . . .

The embalmed Egyptian mummies at Manchester Museum have been covered up for modesty while preserved Lindow Man remains as naked as the day he was born . . . a sad time for Egyptology . . .

Have you read about the oldest surviving road in Scotland being discovered in a Glasgow park?
I hear that the archaeologists then found a 1000-year-old cart on the road.
Within minutes, traffic wardens were on the scene and ordered a low-loader to remove it immediately. I made that up!

Two men who dug up guns and bullets from Europe's battlefields and sold them on the internet have pleaded guilty to firearms offences.
Jay Howe and Paul White admit possessing a range of weapons and ammunition, including a stungun, a revolver and a pistol, without owning the relevant licences.
