OK...heads above the parapet. I`m going ! Anyone else ? Or is it easier to tap a keyboard and "do your bit" than actually bite the bullet and engage with people of influence ? <dons tin hat & retreats to trench>

| I won't be there John, but I wish you well and look forward to one of your super mini reports (complete with pictures of archaeologists gnashing their teeth) on your return. Let BAJR do the blow-by-blow account.

I think the distance has more to do with not going that preference to key tapping.

I'd love to go, but I have to fund several important archaeological events lined-up for this year and really can't afford the time, or the money! I have it on good authority that the event will be well covered by the forum/NCMD and hobby press. I'll enjoy reading the accounts!

I am reliably informed that the CBA messed up big style with the dates as there is another conference this weekend at the BM...some rather ticked off FLO`s and higher.
I`m kind of looking forward to an interesting weekend. Maybe I should do live updates if my techy gadget works.
I am particularly looking forward to
Tiva Montalbo (University College London) on "Profiling Detectorists" ?? WTF are we serial killers ????

And to ice the cake.......
The NCMD have pulled out & FID didn`t even twitch an eye-lid.
Such superb representation from our representative bodies. Anyone know where I can independently buy Public Liability Insurance for a fairly innocuous hobby ???
I am bordering on livid.

| I think the NCMD's reasons are valid, personally as I stated in the original thread announcing this conference, if anyone thinks the hobby is going to gain any ground through speaking at this conference then you are on a rocker, it is CBA orchestrated and it sole intention is not to let us have our say, but to use what ever they can reap from it against us. UNDERSTAND this, despite what the CBA / Mike Heyworth say or do in public they have just ONE agenda ... to stop or severely restrict metal detecting, no if's or but's about it.

Whilst I appreciate the not very well hidden ethos of the CBA the biggest problem is that they have the "political high ground" thanks to their influence witin Government & its related funding bodies. Those same bodies that write the payment rules for our landowners.
Is it not better to take an opportunity to validate our input & importance to the nations heritage record irrespective of the CBA`s agenda ?
Or just give up & wait for the "new rules" to be implemented on us ?

I actually talked to Trevor about this as well... wanted to know if there was any hand grenade in the room type scenario I should know about...
I already considered pulling out, given another 'person' who is talking as well - I wonder how he knows so much with so little experience... sigh... band-wagon jumper! And then I had other misgivings as well... anyway... I am busy Saturday now... so will go on Sunday only... will give my talk.. which will be fair but harsh. well... you know me... why be nice when you can shoot from the hip.
I am still unsure what this will achieve, but... Suzie set it up... I feel I should support her... and well... I have stuff to say. I will be recording my bit, so you can hear that at least... though you may miss the picture
Fairly dis-heartened, but then.. as Jeb said recently... I ain't a quitter... and many of you took time to help me in this... recent events, of which I will not say... as it may pertain to Scotland - has made me feel rather sad, that robust discussion is off the menu.... but I guess robust will be allowed in Newcastle... the home of... er... robust folk!
see you there
